What if learning a language didn't feel like a second job?

What if you could...

have conversations in another language without panicking?
You could go abroad and make friends with the locals, or stay home and connect with your relatives in their native language.

watch foreign language movies, and follow the plot, without subtitles?
You could open yourself up to whole new worlds of entertainment and culture.

finish a book (and understand it) without giving up by page 3.
So much gets lost in translation. Read & understand literary works, both old and new, at another level.

so why does it still feel like you're going nowhere?

It’s not because you’re lazy, unmotivated, or lack discipline
Language learning is personal.
Sure, if your international job requires formal written fluency, grammar matters.
But if you want to just talk to your great aunt in her native language, drilling grammar tables won't help you understand her 1970s slang.
knowing for a fact that your strategy will work. No more second-guessing.
having the motivation to learn a language long-term; not just for a few days, and not just when the stars align
in fact, when life hands you lemons (or pelts you with them for a week straight), you wouldn't fall into your usual shame spiral
making real progress in your language learning, bit-by-bit
You’ll want to stay consistent and learn something every day, not drag your feet (or even worse, force yourself)
You’ll actually feel yourself getting closer to your goals.
But right now, learning a language feels impossible.
The popular advice is somehow both underwhelming and overwhelming, depending on your brain.
The hottest apps on the internet were not built for your brain. And you keep downloading them anyway.
Those magical, motivating promises of fluency are marketing. You know this, and yet you fall for it every single time.

You're trying to guilt-trip yourself into fluency, then wondering why you feel depressed and yet still not fluent.
Raise your hand
if you’re stuck in this cycle:
1. wow it’d be super cool to learn *language*!
So you head on over to YouTube (or whatever social you’re into right now) and start doing some research.
Enter your bullet points here..
2. You find an app or course, usually from ads or a youtube polyglot, maybe from a friend who likes a certain strategy
This is probably based on one (quite frankly random) person’s experience with learning languages; if it’s from a Polyglot
, it's almost definitely a brand deal and/or affiliate commission
Enter your bullet points here..
3. You start out excited and motivated with your new & improved hyperfocus
Learning languages is amazing!! You want to spend all of your time and energy learning. You might even find one of those online calculators that tells you how many hours it’ll take you to reach certain levels; the more hours you spend studying every day, the faster you’ll be fluent!
Enter your bullet points here..
4. That energy wanes. You’re not learning as quickly as expected, or even at all
There’s some major dissonance between the hours you’re putting in and progress to your actual goals. Or, maybe your depression/chronic illness/whatever fuckery your life keeps throwing at you pops up again, leaving you bedridden and brain foggy.
Enter your bullet points here..
5. Giving up. again.
You’re following someone else’s strategy, built to support someone else’s goals, so eventually your brain (or life) rejects it. And it's the worst.

Figure out what you actually want from your language learning, not what you're "supposed" to want.
Phase 2: Methods

Finally understand why nothing has worked, what what will.
Phase 3: Metrics

How to stick to learning a language long-term, no matter what your health or life throws at you down the road.
Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Euismod mi, cras viverra augue. Volutpat aenean pulvinar integer ut vel. Fringilla massa integer porttitor.
Phase 1 - Mindset
Every app promises fluency. None of them are designed to actually figure out what you need. When their magical guarantees don't work, you assume it’s something wrong with you.
Phase 2 - Methods
Everyone seems to have an opinion on the best way to learn a language, and they're probably wrong (for you, specifically). It’s impossible to know which apps and strategies to use unless you’re clear on exactly what you need to learn and how you want to learn it.
Phase 3 - Metrics
Shit happens, and I’ve never met anybody who has actually successfully fulfilled their language goals 100% of the time; people just don't post when it gets tough.
If you’ve tried over and over again to learn a language (either with the same approach every time, or mixing it up) and something just isn’t

Fuck Trump and the wave of bigotry he rode in on.
All the different skin colors, abilities, gender identities, sexualities, etc. etc. etc. are the very things that make humanity fun. Every single day, our current society continues to perpetuate the systems and assumptions that make it harder for us non-1%ers to live a comfortable and fulfilled life.
I’m autistic, and this absolutely impacts every interaction I ever have with any person ever. I can miss out on social cues, and my communication style can come across as abrasive or rude. Always lead with curiosity, not judgement.
